The company's name comes from Texas irrigation pioneer Larry Davis, who pioneered the growth of the turf irrigation market in the Lone Star State. On family visits to Oklahoma to see his brother-in-law and sister - Jack and Jan Grigg - Larry pointed out the under-served irrigation market in the state and encouraged Jack to open a store in Oklahoma City.
Prior to entering into the irrigation industry, Jack and Jan had careers in public education. Jack was a high school principal and later an auditor with the Oklahoma Department of Education, and Jan was an elementary school teacher. In 1984, Jack entered into a partnership with Larry's son Mark Davis and opened Davis Pipe & Supply in Edmond. The Edmond store had very humble beginning - with Jack and one other employee running the store. They stocked the shelves, pulled the orders, answered the phones and swept the floors.
In 1991, Jack purchased Mark's share of the Oklahoma business and exciting growth really began. Jan retired from teaching and joined him full time in the business.
With a philosophy of fair prices, integrity and surrounding himself with great employees, the company quickly won the support of a wide customer base. Davis became Hunter's first distributor in the state, and developed strong relationships with other suppliers - including Rain Bird, Toro, Weathermatic, Nightscaping and ADS. The company was honored as the 1992 distributor of the year for both Hunter Industries and Richdel (now Irritrol).
Always a family company, Jack and Jan's children - Brook and Cory - have played an integral role in the company since their college days. Brook has worked at both the Edmond and Norman locations. Cory began as a delivery driver during the summer when he was in high school. Today, both Cory and Brook lead the daily operation of the company.
By 2000, Davis was expanding their product line and growing their business. The wide variety of products created new opportunities for Davis and their customers. They knew contractors were diversifying their businesses, and by adding landscape lighting, pools/spas, drainage, water gardening, outdoor structures and holiday decorating to their offerings, they were opening up a new world of possibilities. New product lines fueling this expansion included Aquascape, Kichler, FX Luminaire, Bull BBQ, Kasco Marine, Lakos Filtration, Zodiac, Hayward and Pentair Pool.
In December 2008, Davis Supply moved into a state-of-the-art headquarters facility in Edmond, increasing warehouse space by five times and adding a welcoming new showroom. Since that time, the dedicated team has continued to add new offerings - making the company the premier source for landscape, irrigation, pump/well, pool/spa and outdoor living products in Oklahoma. A training center allows the company to host seminars from experts around the country to educate local professionals on the latest innovations.
In 2011, the company completed a total remodeling of the Norman, Oklahoma warehouse and customer service center (first opened in 1993), adding new warehouse capabilities and delivery trucks serving Southern Oklahoma.
In 2012, Davis expanded personnel, inventory and resources to become one of the region's largest distributors of water pump equipment. Davis offers pumps for domestic water, turf and agricultural irrigation, pool/spa, de-watering, environmental remediation, oilfield, industrial and high volume water moving.
In 2015, Davis Supply opened a customer service center and warehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma, offering irrigation/landscape, pool/spa and water well products to Northeast Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. This fully-stocked location boasts a team of experienced professionals who provide hands-on support to local contractors.
Davis Supply has been recognized three times as a recipient of the Metro 50 which recognizes the Greater Oklahoma City area's 50 fastest growing, privately-owned companies.
Throughout the company's history, the customer's needs have driven expansion, growth and new services. The customer is always number one at Davis Supply.
